Restaurant's Latest Information

Great value for money satisfies the hunger of today's business men

What image does the phrase "stand-while-you-eat soba" conjure up? Lifeless noodles with no texture or taste? Well, I tell you, that image is a thing of the past. There is a stand-while-you-eat soba restaurant which has worked hard to overcome that image by consistently producing high-quality food. The Komoro Soba restaurant in front of Tokyo Station exceeds the expectations of the everyday business person for food which is not only cheap and fast, but also filling and delicious.
Even though this is a stand-while-you-eat soba restaurant, there are counter seats, so you can sit and eat if you wish. All-you-can-eat chopped spring onion placed on every table top is a nice touch, as is the all-you-can-drink, self-service soba water - the water left over from boiling the soba. The use of Kanto-style dark soy sauce soup stock on the soba, and Kansai-style thin soy sauce on the udon shows the care and dedication which goes into the making of Komoro's cuisine.

Editor's Recommendations

Standout quality makes the stand up worth it
Komoro Soba is the best representative of a contemporary stand-while-you-eat soba restaurant. In the past, these restaurants prioritized fast service and low labor costs to the detriment of the food, but many are now shifting their priorities to the quality of the food and not sacrificing the taste.
The tempura is fried in-house and the soba noodles are boiled raw and finished by rinsing in cold water. The fresh preparation of food is done for the enjoyment of the customer. Although it may not stand out, the all-you-can-eat chopped spring onion on the counters and the self-service, all-you-can-drink soba water are also part of the hospitality that Komoro Soba provides.
They are also actively developing new products with one example being their Chilled Tanuki (cold soba with deep-fried tempura batter), which has become so popular that it could be considered the new summer menu.
A constantly evolving dinner menu for the hungry dinner
Cheap, fast, and delicious, stand-while-you-eat soba restaurants have established a strong reputation for breakfasts and lunches. However, in recent years, various ideas have been devised to strengthen their dinner menus.
One of these is the set menu. There is the basic set, consisting of soba and a rice bowl, and a special set that increases the amount of ingredients (meat, eggs, rice, etc.). Furthermore, if you really want to eat a lot for a reasonable price, there is the large serving for 30 yen extra or the double serving for 60 yen extra. The double serving doubles the amount of noodles.
These menus have been designed to change the image of stand-while-you-eat soba restaurants by meeting the needs of people who want a filling meal for dinner.
A simple and clean space creates a warm and relaxing atmosphere
After entering the restaurant, there is a ticket counter on the left where you tell the staff your order. After paying them, you get a meal ticket which you then place on the counter over which the food is handed to customers. This is an old-fashioned system that makes you feel the warmth of the Showa era.
Even though this is a stand-while-you-eat restaurant, there are 17 counter seats, so you can sit down while you enjoy your noodles. The counter is home to seven spice citrus seasoning, crunchy plum, wasabi paste, seven spice chili seasoning and chopped spring onion, all of which can be used freely.
The simple and clean shop had flowers, and the walls were decorated with a number of photographs of Komoro city scenery. There was no atmosphere of impatience that is often found in standing eateries, creating a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere.
Recommended Dish
Chilled Tanuki (cold soba noodles with deep fried tempura batter)
Price: 340 yen (tax included)
On hot summer nights, there is nothing better than cold soba noodles topped with crispy tempura pieces. Komoro Soba's Chilled Tanuki Soba is a dish that allows you to fully enjoy the refreshing feeling of eating chilled noodles while offering outstanding value for money.
Although "chilled tanuki" often refers to udon noodles, Komoro Soba's chilled tanuki is soba and not udon. The soba noodles are topped with slices of cucumber, kamaboko (dried fish paste), and the "tanuki" - crispy deep-fried tempura batter pieces. The green of the cucumber, red and white of the kamaboko and yellow of the tempura batter make for a colorful dish.
The crispiness of the tempura pieces, the coolness of the cucumber and kamaboko and the firmness of the soba noodles combine in the mouth to create a veritable summer party of a dish. When you have finished the noodles, the tempura pieces will have dissolved into the sauce giving it an oily texture. Adding hot soba water to it will quickly turn it into a tasty soup you can use to finish the meal. Such a wealth of gustatory enjoyment condensed in such a small dish.
