A cozy dining experience produced by a collaboration between a long-established traditional Japanese hotel and a leading boutique store.
Our restaurant was born from a collaboration of Japan's oldest resort hotel, the famous Nikko Kanaya Hotel, with the fashion industry leader BEAMS. The writer Kundo Koyama is also said to have been involved in this collaboration.
Our long-established hotel provides unique cuisine based on Japanese Western and French styles and includes the one hundred year rice curry, whose recipe we have safe-guarded for, as the name suggest, over 100 years.
In addition, we are equipped with a high quality beer bar and have an especially impressive line up of domestic craft beer and craft liquor.
Add to this a selection of lavish dinner courses and all-you-can-drink plans and you can't go wrong. Our restaurant can be utilized in a variety of ways according to the customers' needs.

NIKKO KANAYA HOTEL CRAFT GRILL, while inheriting the spirit towards cuisine from this long-established resort hotel, continues to develop a new menu based on the concepts of craft (making by hand), tradition and innovation.
Examples are our Shinjuku hundred year rice curry and our boiled beef craft beer. Shinjuku hundred year rice curry is a dish that we revived in modern form from a recipe which was developed by the Kanaya Hotel more than 100 years ago. Beef boiled in craft beer is a dish in which beef is stewed for a long time in our speciality craft beer until the beef is melt in the mouth tender.
While following the concepts of tradition and innovation and the spirit of craft, we will continue to produce new and exciting dishes.
Giving form to the concepts of tradition and innovation is our stylish interior arranged with bricks and wood.
The dining hall has a retro-modern design. It is nestled in stylish brick and wood, which also skillfully represent the themes of tradition and innovation. The kitchen uses an open design which allows the staff cooking to be seen up close.
Private rooms for 4 or 6 people are available for reservation and can be used for special occasions. Visiting in the wheelchair is also possible, as we are barrier-free.
We have an extensive drink menu to cater for wide variety of tastes.
We stock a special selection of craft beer from Japan breweries such as Niigata beer from Niigata prefecture and Hitachino Nest beer from Ibaraki Prefecture. In addition, we have a wide selection of domestic wines such as Kitajima Hideki Kerner from Hokkaido Wine and Rubaiyat Koshu Sur Lie from Marufuji Winery in Yamanashi. We also have a substantial stock of domestic spirits such as Okuhida vodka, Ogasawara rum, and various sake, shochu, and domestic whiskeys products.
Of course we also have a wide range of foreign drinks, so please inquire if you have a preference.
When you order you can choose between raisin butter rice, rice with pickles, mixed-grain rice, and white rice. Apparently a lot of people choose the raisin butter rice, so that's what I chose. The onion consomme soup and salad were brought right away, then 10 minutes later the curry came. The curry was served in a classic stainless steel bowl and the raisin butter rice was served on a large, flat plate. It was in a shape resembling a rugby ball cut in half.
The raisin butter rice had been lightly fried in butter and did not get in the way of the curry's flavor. The curry roux was brown with a tinge of yellow and had a slight taste of coconut milk. At first it tasted sweet, but then a complex, spicy, almost indescribible flavor fills your mouth. So this is the famous curry made to a recipe that has existed for over 100 years! I have to take my hat off to this curry for a flavor which is a mixture of the cutting-edge and the nostalgic.
